A Little Advent Music (Violin)
Availability:
A Little Advent Music by Hugo Distler and edited by Larry Palmer, neither is it small in concept nor in message. Based on the Advent chorale Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, the cantus is heard in an unornamented version played by the oboe. A most interesting texture is achieved by the use of three obbligato instruments, all which play in approximately the same range. Distler himself provided many suggestions for alternative ways of performing his work: with or without narrator, with a choice of keyboard instruments, in excerpted or complete form. The absence of tenor part will be a boon to many church choirs.
