Michael Larkin’s gentle anthem of comfort is based on Isaiah 43:1–4. The luscious choral textures are supported by a decorative piano accompaniment, making this an accessible piece for choirs of all abilities. The text appears in Lutheran Service Book’s Three-Year Lectionary, Series C, as the Old Testament Reading for the Baptism of Our Lord. The piece also makes a wonderful anthem for baptisms and confirmations.
Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name, and you are Mine.
Do not be afraid, for you are Mine.
When you pass through deep waters the waves will not cover you.
When you pass through the fire the flames will not touch you.
The flames will not touch you.
Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name, and you are Mine.
For I am the Lord your God; you are precious in My sight.
I love you with a perfect love.
I love you with a perfect love, a perfect love.
