Endorsements
"John Pless mines the riches of Scripture, the Lutheran Confessions, and the pastoral works of Martin Luther and C. F. W. Walther to unearth gems vital for both Christian life and preaching. Pless is no mere archaeologist; his long pastoral experience ensures that every nugget connects struggling contemporary Christians to the unswerving light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
—Harold L. Senkbeil, Executive Director for Spiritual Care, DOXOLOGY: The Lutheran Center for Spiritual Care and Counsel
"Walther wrote his classic study of the proper distinction of Law and Gospel in a societal setting much different from that of twenty-first-century North America. Pless leads the reader from Walther’s text into Scripture and into everyday life, both through perceptive comments and through pointed discussion questions. His sprightly prose carefully weaves together observations of theologians (from Luther to Bo Giertz, Gerhard Forde, and Oswald Bayer) with his own insights and examples from contemporary ecumenical exchange and real life. Pastors and laypeople will find this easy-to-read volume a pleasure and a great help in the practice of Christian living."
—Robert Kolb, International Research Emeritus Professor, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri
