This volume contains fresh settings of communion hymns and chorales common to the Lutheran heritage, but found in many other hymnals as well. The pieces are newly-composed, having been commissioned from contemporary composers; the selection is thus diverse both in style and in approach, ranging in mood from the contemplative to the celebrative. Each composer provides a prelude(s) and one or more alternate accompaniments for use either in congregational singing or as an introduction to the prelude itself. The preludes may also serve as meditations or as alternatim solo stanzas of the hymn. The settings range from easy to moderately difficult.
