Isaiah, Mighty Seer in Days of Old
A reformation hymn concerto for SATB, congregation, organ, brass, and timpani, based off the tunes JESAIA and DEM PROPHETEN.
This hymn concertato begins mysteriously as the choir sings a setting of the plainsong upon which the hymn is based. After a brief interlude, the congregation sings the hymn, which culminates in a grand crescendo at the text “Holy is God, the Lord of Sabaoth.” The setting closes with the choir singing a coda based on the same plainsong that began the hymn.
