Lift High the Cross (Full Score)
Availability:
This updated Full Score includes reproducible parts for two trumpets (Trumpet 1 and 2 in B-flat and C), French horn in F (substitute for Trombone 1), two trombones, and timpani.
Carl F. Schalk’s setting has been a perennial favorite since 1980 for choirs and congregations of all denominations. This concertato based on Sydney H. Nicholson’s tune CRUCIFER and using the text by George W. Kitchin and Michael R. Newbolt is scored for SATB choir, congregation, organ, brass quartet (two trumpets, two trombones), and timpani. The text is appropriate for festivals, mission and witness, and Holy Cross Day. It is also the hymn of the day for St. Barnabas.
This setting was updated by the composer to include the six hymn stanzas used in Lutheran Service Book. It replaces the original Choral Score (98-2468), Full Score (97-5548), and Instrumental Parts (97-5549).
This updated Full Score includes reproducible parts for two trumpets (Trumpet 1 and 2 in B-flat and C), French horn in F (substitute for Trombone 1), two trombones, and timpani.
A Choral Score with parts for choir, organ, and reproducible congregation page is available (98-4122). It also includes organ cues to be used when brass is not available.
