David Cherwien
David Cherwien holds an undergraduate degree in Choral Music Education and Organ Performance from Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN). He has a MA in Theory and Composition and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance from the University of Minnesota. He spent two years studying conducting, composition and organ at the Berlin Church Music School. Cherwien currently serves as Cantor at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis as well as Artistic Director of the National Lutheran Choir. He also serves as editor for the National Lutheran Choir Series of choral music. In 2000, he was awarded “Distinguished Alumnus” by Augsburg College. He is the 2007 award winner of the Raabe Prize for Excellence in Sacred Composition for his piece, "The Souls of the Righteous."
