Downloadable accompaniment track
English Tudor composer Orlando Gibbons (1583–1625) only composed two settings of the Evensong service: the Second Service and the Short Service, from which this intimate, expressive Nunc Dimittis is taken. William Lock has prepared an edition for SATB choir a cappella with keyboard reduction for rehearsal. The standard English Nunc Dimittis text is from Luke 2:29–32 (Book of Common Prayer) and is appropriate as the canticle after the Lord’s Supper in the Divine Service, in any evening service, during Christmastide, and on the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Our Lord.
