The Salutary Gift: Lent Meditations on the Lord's Supper Devotional
Stay in God's Word every day during Lent with The Salutary Gift Daily Devotions.
Overview
Lent is a penitential season during which God’s baptized people celebrate their Baptism through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the true and only Savior, the one foretold by God’s prophet, and the only one who can restore humankind to a relationship of life with God through His suffering and death. Stay in God's Word every day during Lent with The Salutary Gift Daily Devotions.
About the Theme
Within the solemn halls of the Lenten season, we gather around God’s Word in repentance over sin, preparation for our Savior’s sacrifice, and thanksgiving for the crucifixion’s redemptive power. The theology of the Lord’s Supper mirrors this Lenten pilgrimage in many ways.
Through studying the Old and New Testament Scripture passages in these daily devotions, we arrive at a deeper appreciation of the Lord’s Supper instituted by Christ. Each theme reveals a host of approaches to understanding the same gift: life-giving fruit, nourishment, healing, communion with the saints, rest, a priestly meal, the feast of victory, and more.
Meditate on these beautiful, biblical images and metaphors in addition to the chief blessing of the Holy Sacrament described in Scripture: the forgiveness of sins. The forgiveness of sins, won for the world on Calvary and offered in the Lord’s body and blood, truly makes this blessed Supper a “salutary gift.”
