A bold text by Jaroslav Vajda in a bold setting for SATB and organ. Accessible and useful throughout the year—Easter, dedications, anniversaries, Reformation and other festival days.
Walls crack, the trumpet sounds,
the day of jubilee explodes.
The night of feardom gone,
old jails erupt in dancing crowds.
The freedom we parade for
is the freedom Jesus paid for,
so sing a life of gratitude:
Alleluia!
Christ comes, the Servant-King,
to do what we could never do,
to break our binding chains,
our dead and dying hopes renew.
The freedom we were made for
is the freedom Jesus paid for,
so sing a life of gratitude:
Alleluia!
Believe the slate is clean,
enjoy God's year of jubilee;
explore with fresh new hearts
the vast bright fields of liberty.
The freedom that we prayed for
is the freedom Jesus paid for,
so sing a life of gratitude:
Alleluia!
Stand fast, the demons lurk
to trap us in the death we left.
Christ lives, and so do we,
with power to keep and share the gift.
The freedom we were freed for
is the freedom Jesus paid for,
so sing a life of gratitude:
Alleluia!
